The mission of First Baptist of Marathon is to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Our vision is a relevant and caring church, in-touch with real life, where anyone in our community would love to come.

 

Who We Are

 

We are a group a people just like you, with problems, imperfections, issues, and questions!  We are no different or better than anyone else.  But we know the best place to find answers when we mess up (again and again and again!) is in the person of Jesus.  And that makes life and joy possible, even when times get pretty hard.  So come and join us, and together we can help each other to get through those tough times and celebrate the great times!  We would love to have you here, and we hope that you will love it when you come.

What We Believe

 

We believe in God.  We believe that God came down to earth and became a man like us, and that man’s name is Jesus Christ.  We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of every person, for all people have sinned, and that He came alive again after being dead.  We believe that if we confess to God we are sinners (which means we have made mistakes), and that we know and trust in our hearts and minds that Christ died for us and rose again from the dead, we will be rescued from our sins and the penalty for those sins.  We believe that faith and trust in Jesus Christ is the only means of rescue (“salvation”) from our sins and the penalty for them (and that penalty is eternal separation from God in hell).  We believe that God, in the person of the Holy Spirit, dwells with all those who put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  We believe that the Bible is God’s message to us, that the Bible contains no errors, and that it is our guide to faith and life.  We believe that the task of every person who trusts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior is to follow Jesus through obediently loving God and loving other people.  The task of the church, which consists of those who have truly trusted in Jesus Christ, is to make disciples through sharing the good news of Jesus, baptism, and encouraging each other to grow in our faith and obedience to God.
 

Strategic Goals

 

1. Have a Sunday morning service that is irresistible, that brings glory to God, and that connects with our community.  It achieves these goals through Biblical, relevant, and dynamic teaching; through music that is high quality, doctrinally sound, and soul-stirring; and through prayer that is direct, compassionate, and convicting.

 

2. Establish, nurture, and energize a flourishing small group ministry, with 75% of the church involved, and with a process in place to plug-in new attendees at the church.

 

3. Increase the use of technology as a tool to connect people with life-changing Biblical truth and with each other, with our website, a Facebook page, and RightNow Media. We will record Sunday morning services and post to the website and Facebook.  We will use RightNow Media for follow-up to Sunday mornings, with additional messages and discussion questions.

 

4. Take care of families and their children, through a safe and loving nursery and child-care, exciting and effective Bible-based teachings in Sunday School, Kids Church, and Teen Club, and fun and meaningful activities for the whole family that builds them up as a team.
